Even My Kids Livetired
My daughter fell asleep while coloring. I mean, who does that?
If I knew coloring would be so magical, I would have invested a lot more in dollar tree coloring books. I would have kept all the loose washable markers I collected over the years, the half dried up no longer strawberry smelling ones, and left them strategically placed all over the house. I could've had Salvador Dali melting kids in corners whenever I wanted them! The quiet I would have! Enough quiet to find my own corner to nap in.
There was never a consistent fix for kids falling asleep or staying asleep at my house. What worked for kid #1 did not work for kid #2 and so on and so on. Kid #1 just needed a binky and a blanket and he'd be down for the count, even in a bowling alley. Kid #2 (pictured here) would only sleep in her own bed (NOT THE CAR, NOT EVEN THE BLOODY CAR!) until I found out the magic of this one coloring book. Kid #3 was a bit of a combo and gave me back my "what a great mom" delusion because she almost slept whenever I wanted her to. Kid #4 was dragged all over the place and mastered the art of getting through life with sleep irregularity, which explains how he can stay up until 10 pm on school nights and still get up in the morning. So far I have not heard from anyone at the school about whether or not he is having trouble staying awake during the day. But I can guarantee you that his teacher, who sits all day with 28 energy sucking kids, is dead tired way before 10 pm on school nights.
Which brings me to this weekend: my daughter played in an intense state semi- final soccer game. She ran and fought hard for an hour an a half. I sat in a chair and yelled encouraging and, to find out later, annoying things, at the field. I sat. I ate some snacks. And when we got home, I took a nap. Because SIMPLY WATCHING THE SOCCER GAME was exhausting! Who does that???
